Can J.K. Rowling save Christmas?
With publishers and booksellers nervous about Christmas sales, a little $12.95 book might be the season's savior. The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a Harry Potter offshoot by J.K. Rowling, is being published by Scholastic on Dec. 4. This will be the first Rowling book to be published at the height of the holiday season. [more...]

Harry Potter readers can be split into four types
Harry Potter readers can be split into four distinct types. 'Hufflepuff' readers take the tales at a slow, steady pace. 'Gryffindor' readers are eager and energetic and will devour the latest Potter book in one sitting. 'Ravenclaws' take the stories with a pinch of salt, while 'Slytherin' readers are not fussed about the books. [more...]

Harry Potter leads noms for Indie Booksellers Book Prize

J.K. Rowling to launch Beetle the Bard in Edinburgh
Author JK Rowling is to read from one of the original handwritten fairytales which were mentioned in her last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The party will take place in Edinburgh on Thursday December 4, the same day as the tale goes on sale in shops. Local school children will be invited to attend the special charity launch. [more...]

Harry Potter disappearing permanently from British libraries
Library books worth more than $1 million have gone missing in Wales over the last two years. More than 100,000 books had been stolen or not returned. Brisingr tops Amazon Canada books list
On the list of the 10 best selling fiction books for this week from Amazon.ca, Brisingr: Inheritance, Book III by Christopher Paolini came in at number 1. Number 4 on the list is The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling, which isn't even available yet, it comes out on December 4. [more...]

Harry Potter tops Amazon UK's all-time chart
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has been revealed as the biggest selling book on Amazon.co.uk's website since it began trading. The chart was revealed as the retailer celebrates its 10 year anniversary this month. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came in at second place on the list. [more...]

Paperback Deathly Hallows slated for July 2009
The paperback edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on July 7, 2009. This follows the record-breaking release of the hardcover edition, which hit stores at 12:01 a.m. on July 21, 2007 and has so far sold 14 million copies, making it the fastest selling book in publishing history. 'Hogwarts Professor' to lecture on Harry Potter
Author and "Hogwarts Professor" John Granger will present a two-day lecture on J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter books as part of the Honors College Lecture Series on the Baylor campus. Was Severus Snape based on a science teacher at J.K.'s school?
One of JK Rowling's former teachers says he suspects the author may have based one of her Harry Potter characters on him. John Nettleship taught at Wyedean Comprehensive between 1976 and 1983 when JK Rowling was a pupil there. He said he believes Hogwarts teacher Severus Snape may have been partly based on him. Potter court ruling gets attention of citizens law group
The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University said today they will "work closely" with a new nonprofit that launched on the heels of a judge's copyright ruling involving the Harry Potter books. Scholastic celebrates Harry Potter's 10th with read-a-thon
Scholastic will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by hosting a fan read-thon September 23. On "Harry Potter Cover to Cover Day," muggles of all ages will have a chance to sit in the throne used by Rowling in her US appearances and read from the book. [more...]
